For the 2020–21 school year, The Leaky Foundation is accepting applications from students all across the world for the Joan Cogswell Donner Field School Scholarship.

In 1979, Joan Cogswell Donner was chosen to serve on the board of trustees of The Leakey Foundation. In 2007, she was awarded the honorary status of Life Trustee.

Mrs. Cogswell Donner, a graduate of Colorado College and Stephens College, has participated actively in a number of illustrious boards and committees, including the National Board of the Smithsonian Institution. She now sits on the Advisory Boards of the Smithsonian National Zoological Park and the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in addition to being an Emeritus Board Member of the Smithsonian Institution. Additionally, Mrs. Cogswell Donner has a trustee position at the Draper National History Museum of Buffalo.\
